Liz Pead grew up in New Brunswick and lived by the sea, painting, drawing, weaving and working in galleries. She studied Fabric Surface Design (1993) and Textiles (1995) at the New Brunswick College of Draft and Design. In 2005, she established Liz Pead Studio in Toronto and in 2007, graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) with Distinction Honours in Drawing and Painting, winning the Medal.
In her newest series of work, Pead uses thread and metal to stitch directly into copper and stainless steel mesh supports recreating various landscapes collected from her travels across Canada, Scotland, Iceland and the Czech Republic. These works are a reflection on memory, an investigation into the history of pattern, and an expansion on material exploration. An accomplished textile designer and hockey player, Pead’s work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, Denmark and Iceland.
