Rebecca Fortin

Rebecca Fortin is a Canadian-born visual artist residing in rural Whitby (Ashburn), Ontario. Influenced by her childhood of growing up on working farms in southwestern Ontario, she creates work that connects people with plants and nature through the arts. Her current focus is creating botanical casts: positive-relief wall frescos made by pressing fresh botanicals into wet clay and embossing their impressions in plaster. She also creates natural pigment for her artwork using dye-plants she grows in her gardens or ethically wildcrafts. Her studio and creative gardens sits on six acres of environmentally sensitive land within the Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine.

After a 20-year career in public health administration, Rebecca is enjoying a second career as a full-time professional artist, spending as much time as possible outdoors in nature and with plants. She is a graduate of the Drawing and Painting program at the Haliburton School of Art + Design (2022), where her artwork and academic achievements earned her two program awards.

Rebecca’s work has been shown across Ontario and is held in private and corporate collections in Canada and internationally. Her first solo exhibition — Cast-Off: Botanical Casts of Overlooked Species (2026) — was held at Colborne Street Gallery. A selection of recent exhibitions include FRESH 2026 with Artwrk/ (an online Canadian gallery), the Town of Whitby’s Station Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition (2023–24, 2025–26), and the Latcham Art Centre's Annual Juried Exhibition (2023). In 2024, her botanical cast Wildflowers on Blue received Honourable Mention at Ontario Tech University’s Art of Sustainability Juried Exhibition. She is a 2023 and 2026 recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s Exhibition Assistance grant.
