Kate Greenway

Kate is a self-taught artist who has worked in glass for almost twenty years. She completed a Masters and Ph.D. in Arts Education with both projects including original glass art. Her Holocaust themed Masters work was acquired by the Holocaust Survivors Speakers Bureau in the Bronx, New York. Her glass art has been exhibited in Toronto, New York, and San Francisco, and she has published several journal articles with accompanying glass artwork illustrations. 
 
Kate also works in watercolour. Selected recent exhibitions include Women’s Art Association of Canada “Connections,” Contemporary Art Gallery Online “All Botanical,” Newmarket Juried Art Exhibition, Colours of Humanity Art Gallery “Wet Paint,” Grey Cube Gallery “blue,” Gallery 1313 Emerging Artists Show, Gallery Ring Online Juried Art Exhibition “Land, Water, Sky,” and publication in ArtAscent Art and Literature Journal “Gardens.” When not employed in artistic pursuits she can be found snuggling with her beagles, cooking, and tending her large gardens in her rural backyard.
 
Artist Statement: "I am an artist who works in three mediums: glass (fused, stained and mosaic), watercolour, and mixed media collage. My favoruite subjects are flora, fauna, and landscapes, where I tend to work representationally in watercolour; in glass, flowers dominate in ways that are non-traditional, whether in flowing fused forms or glittering mosaic, but I also lean to abstract expression or thematically linked pieces here and in my mixed media collages.

While at first glance these creative genres may seem to have little in common, in each, light, colour and transparency are key. In all three mediums, I am fascinated by the use of tiny pieces to build up form and meaning in minute detail, whether it is shards of colourful glass, luminous layers of delicate brushwork, or scraps of hand-painted tissue papers and varied tactile and foraged treasures, often as small as individual pieces of thread. I love to use disparate, often discarded materials to create texture and dimension. I often combine natural and photo-transfer elements in unique ways in both glass and collage. Working across these mediums fuels my creative spirit."
